Paperwork is, unfortunately, part and parcel of being a starship captain. With the memorial service over and the Enterprise on track to begin her trials soon, Jim has begun to be inundated with more and more forms requiring his approval, reports that need his attention, enough to keep him busy for an entire duty shift at Headquarters every day.
The small beeping coming from his communicator gets his attention midway through the hundredth requisitions form he's signed today, and Jim fumbles for the device, expecting another message from the admiralty or perhaps one of his crew with a question about their upcoming assignment. It takes a moment of staring at the message before its meaning truly sinks in.
A heart attack? Jim has met Robert all of one time before, and the man's closed-mindedness had been absolutely grating the entire time. There had been little love lost between Hunter and his father. But Jim's concern lies mostly elsewhere, in the man currently making his way to that hospital.
Do you want me there?
Someone won't be happy about him running out and leaving all this paperwork, but fuck it, it's not urgent enough that it can't wait a few hours. Or a day, if it comes to that.
