Sleepovers with Someone to Cling to ((Verity))

It has been a quiet week for Hunter. One of the advantages of the quiet is the fact that Hunter has had lots of time to work on his artwork. (Perhaps a little bit too much time, in all reality).

So receiving a message from Verity was a good thing, all things considered. Hunter really had wanted to speak to her, about some small things going on in his life. And just have a fun night with a great friend. So they had decided to have a good-ol' fashioned sleepover.

Knowing that Verity was going to stay the night -- and having no qualms with sharing his bed with his good friend -- Hunter had made sure to bring out his best rose-themed sheets for the King-sized bed.

He also raided the closest convenience store to stock up on a few snack goodies for the evening. But of course, for the wine selection of the evening, Hunter went to one of his favourite stores. There he also picked up some cheese selections of the evening.

Almost was ready for Verity to arrive. Hunter's apartment is very open concept. The kitchen, dining room and living room are all visible from the doorway. Of course, his art studio is a little more tucked away -- close to the balcony, and where Hunter grows his roses.

"Switch the genders around, then. You know what I mean. It screws up people's lives, being heroes. I'm damned grateful they did it, but... I'm not that good a person."

"Neither am I." Really, he was very close to being a stalker during those initial days with Lindy.

"But we can get pretty close, hanging out together."

It's the nature of his story, to obsess over what's been lost and what will be lost if he's not careful. It's not a fun story to be stuck in. And he didn't even get the singing furniture.

"We do make a pretty good team," she agrees.

Good thing he is not in the story anymore.

"One of the best." Hunter closes his eyes, just holding her close.

He's lucky that way. Not everyone can escape their stories so easily.

"Mm. Yeah. Good thing for the baddies we'd not want to ruin our manicures." Ver's pretty happy to lay there and enjoy the cuddles for however long they're on offer. She's got a lifetime's deficit running on affection and it's going to take a very long time to feel like she's caught up. That interest rate is a killer.

After all the spoiling, it really isn't going to take long before sleepiness catches up to Hunter. And he truly is content to hold Verity for the rest of the night. Especially since it is been such a long time since he had something like this friendship in his life. He is catching up on his deficit.

"I love you, Verity."

"I love you too, Hunter."

Being held all night, lovely as it sounds, would require her being able to sleep through the night. The best she can really offer is a good cuddle now and to slip away as quietly as possible when the nightmares force her out of bed again.
