Writing Prompts: You Don't Know

It is surreal how the dating scene does not change from someone trying to attract the opposite sex, to now trying to attract the same sex. Hunter feels a little lost when he first enters the bar scene, and it is a good thing that the first few times he had good friends at his side.
Eventually, he felt comfortable enough to go to one of his familiar spots alone, and had a pretty good night out. He danced. He flirted. And even though none of his friends were there in person, he still felt their support and confidence in him.
After a few solo runs, Hunter had met a young man named Lucas, and the two of them had hit it off. They first couple of times, the two men had spent time in a dark corner, conversing and drinking together, and getting to know each other.
Things seemed to be moving in the right direction, when Lucas wanted to continue to get to know Hunter on a more private setting. And so, for a couple of nights, they met at Lucas' place where they dined over a few meals, or watched TV, or just chatted over a drink.
Hunter was content in taking his time to get to know Lucas as a person, so never did anything go to a more intimate level.
It was the fourth time over at Lucas' place, that something occurred to Hunter. They had not yet gone 'out' on a date. Not to a proper restaurant. Or even spending the time together at the bar.
Lucas and him were sitting on the couch, enjoying a good glass of wine when Hunter decided to bring up the topic. "You know, there is a few places that I would really like to take you. There is a great restaurant just down by my apartment."
"We could order take out, and get the food delivered here."
Hunter frowned slightly, something about that response just didn't sit well with him. "We could. But there is something really nice about getting out of the apartment. To experience the world around us. To share in those experiences together."
Lucas shrugged his shoulders, "I would rather not."
"Why not?"
Lucas moved to sit in Hunter's lap, and flashed a slight shy smile. "I like our privacy. The world doesn't need to see us."
Hunter frowned again. He placed his hands on Lucas' hips, and moved the other man off his lap. "I am not hiding who I am. And I don't want to hide who I dating."
"Sweetie, we can just be happy without letting the rest of the world know," Lucas tried to counter. But Hunter was already getting up from the couch and getting his coat. So Lucas attempted one more time to get Hunter to stay. "You don't know what you are missing."
Hunter turns slightly, to face Lucas. "No. You don't know what you are missing. I deserve better." Then before his emotional state gets the better of him, Hunter leaves Lucas' apartment. Closing the door on a relationship that was never meant to be.
