finding love in time of troubles ((Verity))

While Hunter did need a night out at the bar after a troubling week, he is smart enough to know that alcohol is not the best way to deal with one's problems. And he was able to talk some of the problems out with Schön that same night...

But really, there are just times when he needs someone to hold him, in addition to comforting him.

Of course, he doesn't want to show up empty-handed. So he had spent a good afternoon baking, using one of the many ingredients he had since learned from Verity. His final result was a batch of cupcakes, which he then decorated to look like miniature carnations.

Armed with the bouquet of cupcakes, Hunter soon arrives at Verity's apartment. She wasn't expecting him, but hopefully she will be home when he knocks on the door.

It's a lot to think about, and more so considering she's trying to be diplomatic about things. While she's thinking she'll rub his back.

"You didn't lose anything. I know you're sad that she wasn't the magical perfect person you wanted, but it's not okay to blame her for what happened. Be sad about the curse if you want, but being sad that she's been able to rebuild her life is selfish, and I know you don't want to be selfish."

"I don't blame her. I could never blame her." Hunter softly clarifies.

"And I can't be sad about the curse. It made me the man I am."

"I guess I am just sad that our lives are taking different paths. I will miss her. Even though I am so happy for her." Hunter wipes away a stray tear from his face.

"I think it just hit me harder, since I sort of... dumped someone earlier this week."

"Ah." She knew there had to be more to it than just Lindy getting married. He gets a kiss on the forehead and her tone gentles again. "I'm sure he's not worth the tears, but you can go ahead and cry as much as you need, okay? I am not, in fact, a wicked witch; I will not melt."

She's very much the good kind of witch, sans sparkly wand.

"So, what'd he do, and how much do you want me to hurt him for ya?"

First a Fairy Godfather, and now a good witch. Hunter truly feels blessed.

"We only saw each other a few times. And I sort of realized all of our dates were at his place."

"I wanted to go out to a public place, and he said... something along the line of 'I prefer keeping things private'. And it just felt like he wanted to hide me. Hide us."

"So I... I told him I wasn't going to hide and walked away."

Well. Goodish. Call her Glinda at your peril.

"Oh." He gets a squeeze then. "I'll leave him alone, then. It's bad enough to live in fear of oneself, there's nothing more I can really do to him."

[losthunter]

"I know I did the right thing." Hunter tells her softly. He had to do what was right for him.

"But it didn't help the loneliness."

[brave_heart_verity]

"Doing the right thing isn't always fun. But it's more lonely to be with the wrong people. Which I know doesn't help right now." She'll hush now in favor of cuddling.

"Is this a staying in breakup, or a going out one? Because either I should get something started for dinner or get dressed." Either way, she's taking care of him. "Cupcakes are great for now, but you'll want a proper meal in a few hours. Crying is hungry work."

"I already did the whole 'escape to the bar' routine. I wouldn't mind just staying in." Hunter answers.

[brave_heart_verity]

"Okay." She'll keep snuggling a bit before she really has to get up. "Wanna start binging on sweets?"

[losthunter]

"That sounds like a good idea." Hunter grabs them both a cupcake, handing over one for Verity first.

"One thing that lifted my spirits, was seeing Schön under the influence of some Nexus magic. He was all sparkly."

"All sparkly?" Verity takes her cupcake and delicately peels the paper back before pulling it in half and turning it over so the frosting's in the middle. Frosting cupcake sandwich! So much less frosting on the nose that way. "I'm sorry to have missed it. And a little surprised he got hit by that lol too."

She sighs and mutters, "Wish Matt's run-in with it had only been glitter."

[losthunter]

"The Nexus magic made him Fairy Godparent-like. He was asking me about my wishes. And a little about Wil."

Hunter decides he likes what Verity did with her cupcake, so does the same. "Who is Matt?"

"Hmm." She can understand the whole 'fairy godfather' theme. Fitting, for Schön, all things considered. She wonders what the bit about Wil was, but it's not her business.

"My boyfriend." It's not so new a relationship, but she still glows with pride when she says that. "He got hit with something that made him not feel well."

"Ohhhh a boyfriend." Hunter teases slightly. He can see the pride in her face when she speaks about him.

"Is he okay?"

The teasing makes her blush, but she's too happy about everything to blush for long.

"Yeah, he's okay now. He was really uncomfortable for a while, but we managed to survive it."

[losthunter]

"I am glad that you were there for him. And your relationship survived."

Hunter looks up at Verity, with a soft smile. "And I am glad that you are here."

"Aw, it'll take more than that to get between us. But thanks." She gives him a smile right back. "'course I'm here, that's what I'm for, right?"

When her cupcake is finished she wraps her arms around him again. "You're going to be okay, darling."

"I know I will. It was just a bad week. And I guess those happen." Hunter nods. He finishes his cupcake with a big bite, so he can snuggle into her arms.

"Yeah, they do. And it's okay to need time to process everything." She'll shift and settle beneath him so they can both be maximumly comfortable in the cuddling. "And I will still totally go punch that guy if you want."

[losthunter]

"Nah. He is not a part of my life. That is his problem, not mine."

He is silent for a moment. "And if it happens, it happens. I just don't want to force something that isn't real."

"When. When it happens. And I know for a fact that it will."

[losthunter]

"Can you tell me about how it happened between you and Matt?" Hunter does enjoy a good romance story. And hearing a true one would be good for him right now.

"Okay, well... we first met at Schön's Samhain party last year. He was pretty lost, and someone had dressed him up as Waldo. I guess they thought it was funny to do that to a blind man. I helped him find his way around and we danced some. It was nice, but then I didn't see him again for a couple of months. It wasn't love at first sight, but I felt safe with him. And I was sad he didn't come back, but well... it wasn't long after, you know, so I wasn't up to caring too much."

Rambling. She knows it. She'll try to dial it back. "So I didn't see him again until nearly Jül, and that time we got to talk properly. We found out we have a lot in common. Both being from New York, liking the same music and poets and... just lots of things. And that time, he decided he wanted to stick around for a while. Got an apartment and everything. I guess we've been dating since the third time I saw him? The day before Jül, I brought him a present, and he kissed me."

She's starting to blush again now. Please ignore it. "I wasn't ready, after everything that had happened, so he was just... he was patient, and let me set the pace for everything. He always makes sure I feel safe and loved when we're together. He calls me in the middle of the day to tell me stories. He told his friends about me, he talks about me with pride in his voice and... I dunno. It's hard to believe he's real sometimes."

Hunter listens to the story, a soft and contented smile on his face as Verity describes the initial meeting and how things naturally evolved for the both of them.

"My first real crush was a blind man." Hunter remarks at the one thing that seemed like another connection between him and Verity.

"He sounds really nice. I hope I get to meet him."

"Oh yeah?" That's a story she'll want to hear later.

"Yeah, he's... real busy, he's a lawyer. But I'm hoping he'll make some time to meet my friends soon. I know you'll like him. And you know, dropping in like this, you'll probably run into him."
