Sleepovers with Someone to Cling to ((Verity))

It has been a quiet week for Hunter. One of the advantages of the quiet is the fact that Hunter has had lots of time to work on his artwork. (Perhaps a little bit too much time, in all reality).

So receiving a message from Verity was a good thing, all things considered. Hunter really had wanted to speak to her, about some small things going on in his life. And just have a fun night with a great friend. So they had decided to have a good-ol' fashioned sleepover.

Knowing that Verity was going to stay the night -- and having no qualms with sharing his bed with his good friend -- Hunter had made sure to bring out his best rose-themed sheets for the King-sized bed.

He also raided the closest convenience store to stock up on a few snack goodies for the evening. But of course, for the wine selection of the evening, Hunter went to one of his favourite stores. There he also picked up some cheese selections of the evening.

Almost was ready for Verity to arrive. Hunter's apartment is very open concept. The kitchen, dining room and living room are all visible from the doorway. Of course, his art studio is a little more tucked away -- close to the balcony, and where Hunter grows his roses.

"Samus Aran. The famous bounty hunter? Or, as more people seem to know her, the blonde Amazon in skin-tight blue bodysuits?" She's a little incredulous. Doesn't everybody know Samus?

[losthunter]

"I have not met her yet." Not everyone knows her, apparently.

[brave_heart_verity]

She was sure Samus was as much a part of the experience of exploring the Nexus as seeing that gods-damned sign.

"Oh. Well, you'll understand when you do."

[losthunter]

"At least I should be able to recognize her, when I do meet her." Hunter chuckles lightly.

[brave_heart_verity]

"This is true. She's a singular figure."

Since he's behaving, Ver will let her guard down and stretch out on the bed beside him.

[losthunter]

"Are there any other friends of yours that I might meet?" Hunter reaches out his arm to wrap behind where Verity is laying.

The question is: should she mention her roommate Sonic? Or would that make the flirting weird?

She'll take that as an invitation to curl up against his side, right where she fits so nice. "Mmm. Have you met my brother yet? Clint?"

I would say no, just otherwise Hunter should have recognized the name

"No. I have not had the pleasure."

"No chance that he is your sexy, single, gay brother that you are now mentioning?" Hunter chuckles lightly.

It is kinda unique.

"Two outta three. Sorry." Not that she'd want to inflict the Beautiful Human Disaster that is her adopted brother on Hunter. She loves them both too much to do that.

She will just learn about the flirting after the fact

"So what does your brother look like? What does he do?"

I was joking with Schon's player about how everyone would react if Sonic ever brought Hunter "home"

"He's... well. He's very handsome, but he looks like an ex-carnie who gets beat up a lot. Like. A lot. And he really likes purple." Ver will sit up long enough to find her phone so she can show Hunter some pictures. The nice pictures, not the Hawkskirt.

"He's a superhero. Hawkeye, the Avenging Archer."

he is actually behaving himself right now ;P

"He is very handsome." Hunter agrees. He of course doesn't care about the bandages or bruises.

"That must take a lot of dedication."

The idea still amuses me. :P

Not all her pictures show bandages or bruises on Clint. Just. Most of them.

"Yeah. It's pretty much his whole life."

Verity will get the gossipy goodness

"I don't come from a world that has superheroes. But I have seen a few of them. And usually, their world needs their services all the time."

I'm still envisioning Sonic bringing Hunter home. "You live with Verity?"

((Or when she comes out of her room 'cuz she hears them talking, blinks sleepily, holds up a hand and says, "I'm too tired to process this, just keep it down" and then makes them a nice breakfast in bed in the morning 'cuz she loves them.))

"Yeah... they don't really get many breaks from what I've seen. I grew up in a city with lots and lots of superheroes, and even more villains. It was... well, it was normal for me, to have to check the 'net to make sure roads weren't closed because of building damage or whatever. But people seem to think it's strange."

Maybe it helps explain how she can shut down her feelings in a crisis so well. Not, thankfully, that he's seen that yet.

that sounds like a Verity reaction

"That is the amazing thing about most people, that they can adapt to their situation pretty quickly in most cases."

"Did you ever superhero?" Yes, he is using it like a verb.

Refusing to deal and then cooking is 100% Verity.

[brave_heart_verity]

"It wasn't even adapting, it was like that long before I was born..." Verity sighs and puts her phone away again before she gets maudlin about it all.

"Nah, I didn't have the skills for it and definitely didn't have the patience for working for the intel agencies or anything like that. And the graveyards are full of middling swordsmen."

[losthunter]

"Well, I think you are a super woman." Hunter kisses the top of her forehead.

[brave_heart_verity]

"Hmm. Well. Thank you." She's a bit flustered by this. Actual superheroes are something very different from her, even when they keep trying to convince her otherwise. That's one of the things about heroes: they're so nice all the time.

"But hey, you've actually done heroing."

[losthunter]

"I just helped out someone I cared about." Hunter blushes shyly.

[brave_heart_verity]

"Yeah, I think that's how most of them get started," she points out. "Next thing you know you've got a closet full of spandex and a soon-to-be-ex-wife on the same superhero team as your current girlfriend."

[losthunter]

"I won't admit to already having spandex in my closet. But the ex-wife and girlfriend scenario won't be in the cards for me."

[brave_heart_verity]

"Switch the genders around, then. You know what I mean. It screws up people's lives, being heroes. I'm damned grateful they did it, but... I'm not that good a person."

[losthunter]

"Neither am I." Really, he was very close to being a stalker during those initial days with Lindy.

"But we can get pretty close, hanging out together."

[brave_heart_verity]

It's the nature of his story, to obsess over what's been lost and what will be lost if he's not careful. It's not a fun story to be stuck in. And he didn't even get the singing furniture.

"We do make a pretty good team," she agrees.
