Be My Guest

Hunter is hosting a few guests at his Nexus apartment tonight. Hunter had been planning this night for awhile, ever since meeting some of the crew members of Jim's ship, getting to know them better, and then telling them about the Nexus. He has been busy planning for the evening, including grocery shopping for some home-made recipes, and finishing some art pieces that will be given as gifts.

Hunter has arranged so that the PINpoint portal is basically connected to his front door. His open concept kitchen and living room will be the first thing that his guests will see, once they arrive through the PINpoint portal. There is a small closet located to the left of the door where they can place any jackets.

The dining room in the living room has been set with all the dining places for his guests. He decided against placecards, since it is more freedom to allow his guests to choose their own seats. On the island in the kitchen is a large plate of vegetarian-friendly appetizers, which features Lavash bread topped with Guacamole and red bell peppers, alongside crescent rolls filled with Jalapeño, mushrooms and asparagus.

The open concept living room immediately flows into Hunter's art studio, where he has a few pieces still being created. There is a large set of French doors that leads out from the living room to an outdoor patio, where there is a rose garden outside. The every-spanning Nexus can be viewed from the patio balcony. Right now, the Nexus is showing the lakeside, where Hunter had first appeared when he had needed support the most.

There are a few closed doors along one wall, one of which that leads to the bathroom, and the other of which leads to Hunter's bedroom.

As Hunter chills some wine, and checks on his main course, he is pretty ready for his guests to arrive. He is feeling excited and happy to be a host.

"Thank you." Uhura reaches out to touch his arm lightly in thanks. "I'll get in touch with you later." She gives a subtle glance in Spock's direction, angled so that the Vulcan won't see it.

Hunter nods in understanding. He touches her hand lightly, with a slight nod.

"Would you guys like to see what I have started for Kendra's memorial?"

"Sure," Jim agrees. He hadn't wanted to ask, but if Hunter's comfortable showing it off, then of course he's going to say yes.

Spock looks uncertain, like he thinks that it might be an intrusion, but as Hunter was the one to offer the invitation, he nods slightly.

[ooc: Pondering throwing a father's day post into the Nexus... it's a bit late in the day and Jim posted recently but more play is always better. ;) Would be backdated to just after he gets out of hospital. Think I should go for it?]

Hunter opens a large sketchbook onto his project table. The portraits are a lot different than the large one that sits on the wall, depicting Kendra's bright green eyes. They are drawings of each of the 'seven sisters' that Hunter had met when they had gone through the door. Each of the sisters had their own personality. There is also a sketch of the star constellation that shares their name in the background.

The last photo in the sketch book is the one of Kendra, looking beautiful and graceful, but the edges of her slowly fading away. Her last goodbye.

Jim recognizes the sisters and the significance of their constellations, but the others don't know their place in the sketchbook, only that they're well done. And Spock recalls Kendra's appearance from the memories Hunter shared in the mind meld, recognizing her in the last picture.

"Which one's her?" McCoy asks, slightly puzzled.

"They all are," Jim answers, knowing that might not make sense. But it's the truth.

"When I went looking for answers about my magical abilities, the Nexus door that I found opened in ancient Greece. There, we met a young girl, who had an amazing ability to see the future."

"We soon discovered that there were seven young girls. And that those seven girls were all aspects of one person. Kendra."

"Aspects?" Uhura repeats, frowning slightly. "As in... reflections of part of her personality?"

"It is hard to explain..." Especially since they don't have magic in their world. "I think that the girls were separate, but a part of a whole. A reflection of Kendra's personality, that each had all had their own personalities."

"I know it sounds crazy, but it's just better to go with it," Jim tells them all. "That's not even the half of the weird stuff that comes up with magic. Trust me on this one."

Hunter knows that hearing about magic might be challenging for them to accept, or even understand. So he won't go into details about the other things they saw. Like meeting a Greek God. Or the magical tree.

"What I do know is that my magical abilities have become stronger. Easier to control, than before."

"Is that the plan with these, then?" McCoy asks, remembering what little of his talents that Hunter showed them before. "Animating them, I mean."

Hunter frowns for a moment. Looking down at the portraits for a moment. "No. I am not going to animate these."

He doesn't want to see Kendra fading away again. It would hurt too much.

"I think..." He has to pause to calm his voice. "There were seven sisters. One of those aspects was directly attached to me. And maybe, there are six other people, who Kendra had helped. That each sister had a person they were guiding."

Spock considers that. "Do you believe it may be beneficial to locate these others?"

"Yes. I do." Hunter is glad for the question. It distracts him enough, that it eases the sadness sensation a little.

"I want to exhibit these in my dimension. Perhaps it will speak to the others, who were influenced by Kendra."

"I think that's a good idea," Uhura agrees, smiling gently.

"But speaking about how my abilities are now stronger..." Hunter moves to another part of his project table, where there are some small metal butterflies. He picks one up, concentrates a little... and its wings start moving. It flies off his hand, until it flutters over to Uhura, landing on her shoulder.

"I don't have to stay in contact anymore."

Uhura smiles, putting her hand under the metal butterfly so it walks onto her hands, so she can look at it closer. "That's so cute."

"It's not really alive, right?" McCoy asks uncertainly, unsure of what to make of such lifelike behavior. "It's more like a magical AI than a thinking creature?"

"It is not actually alive." Hunter reassures McCoy. "And I think that description is pretty close to what it is."

"Fascinating," Spock murmurs, as the metal butterfly explores Uhura's hands. "Does it require constant concentration to maintain?"

"I do need to concentrate. But it does not need my direct concentration... I can still have a conversation. Or work on other projects."

"I was able to make a Nexus door open, by painting it."

"And I can make landscapes move, so it is like you are standing in the place that I painted." While he tells this to everyone, he does make brief eye contact with Uhura, as recognition that if that is something she wants for her commissioned painting it is within the realm of possibility.

"How long does it last?" McCoy asks. He's still a bit wary of this whole thing, but it's pretty hard to deny the proof when it's fluttering around Uhura's hands.

"Any longer than an hour... and I get emotionally drained."

"I wonder if that's something that'll get longer with practice," Jim wonders. After the last few months, where he's had to deal with so much PT to build up his strength again, it's a logical conclusion for him to draw.

"I believe it can."

"And Verity got me some materials that she uses with her Alchemy. Those materials seem to work better with the magic."

"In my world, there is a three-part series of movies that deals with how Museum artifacts come to life. And how people can learn more about historical moments in time, by interacting with the artifacts."

"I hope to get enough strength to do that. Even for a night."

"Old pre-holo movies are weird, but pretty cool," Jim adds, since Hunter has shown him a few. "Bones, I think you'd like this one he showed me, it's called Dukes of Hazzard."
