Dancing, Drinks and Drag ((Jim, Verity)
Hunter has been looking forward to this night for a long time. He has a table booked at his favorite Drag bar. He is looking forward to dressing up, and enjoying a few drinks with two of his favorite people. And he is sure that both Jim and Verity will enjoy a night out on the town.
Right now, Hunter is waiting in his New York apartment, where he is going to meet up with both Jim and Verity. It is the best place to get together, before heading out to the bar. Both Jim and Verity know his PINpoint coordinates. And besides, they don't have to navigate the Drag bar trying to find Hunter.
Tonight, Hunter is wearing a long gold dress. It is designed to show off his arms. And has a long exposed back. The look is completed with an elaborate head piece and deep, rich make-up that flatters his whole look.
He is excited to have Jim and Verity show up and to see their outfits.

"You grew up someplace called Riverside? Sounds positively bucolic." Jim gets a smile too, to soften the teasing. "Were there cows?" The country always has cows, that's what makes it the country, right? She's a city girl, she doesn't know.

The drag waitress comes over with their drinks. "Darlings. You look especially delicious tonight. Perhaps one of you will get a chance to go on the stage."
no subject
"What's so funny about that?" he asks Hunter, giving him a teasing look, to see if he'll try to weasel out of it or stick to his guns.
He happily claims his martini, automatically giving a flirty sort of smile to the waitress. "Is that so?"
no subject
"Sometimes, quiet some nice," she admits. "Not so nice I'm willing to give up the perks of city life... once you get used to 24-hour access to live music and exotic food, I don't think there's any going back. Are cows nice?" Maybe it's a good thing nobody's getting the steak.
Ver glances at the waitress, going a little pale at the thought of being dragged up on stage. Clearly not volunteering, this one. That drink came at a very convenient time for her.
no subject
The waitress zeros in on Jim anyway, since he is flirting back. So it looks like Verity escapes without notice. With a deep chuckle, the waitress gives Jim the once over and smiles. "Oh yes. I am sure I could make those girls on stage very happy by taking you up there."
no subject
"Sure, cows are sweethearts. Bulls, not so much." Good thing indeed. Jim's well aware of where burgers come from, and he likes them as much as the next guy, but something seems off about reminiscing about his neighbor's herd while chowing down on one of their ancestors. "It's the geese you have to watch out for. Those bastards are mean."
He continues smiling at the waitress, taking a sip from his martini. "I bet you could." Not a commitment, exactly - he wants Hunter and Verity to have fun too, and he's enjoying spending his downtime with them - but leaving the option open.
no subject
"Geese? Mean? I thought they just fought over bread." Geese in parks are kind of a different breed. "I guess it's only fair that delicious things want to fight back."
Verity's fun wouldn't be diminished if Jim went up on stage. So long as she's not bothered about it, she's happy to be witness to their antics. A good witness, who knows when to put her phone away... and when not to. While Jim's flirting with the waitress, Ver gives Hunter a questioning look. If he wants in on that, now's his time to speak up.

Hunter is smiling softly, watching the exchange between the waitress and Jim. It is nice to see the Captain in a relaxed environment like this one, where no one knows his fame.
"How about if I were the one to pull you up there, Jim?" Hunter asks. "You could show me your dance moves."
no subject
Jim laughs a little at Verity's fairly logical conclusion. "Sounds about right. There's no scarier farm animal to strike fear into a little boy's heart than being chased by a pissed off goose that's almost as big as you are. Sam learned that one the hard way."
And of course he has to smile at Hunter's suggestion. "You know I wasn't kidding about the exotic dancing thing, right?" he teases. "I could tone it down a bit."
no subject
"Sam?" She's missing so much context right now. Not for the first time, and she can live without it.
Boy howdy can she blush, nearly as bright and hot a shade as her hair. She'll sip her drink, look around, and let the boys flirt with each other.
no subject
Hunter blushes too. He imagines that Jim would have a blast up there on the stage. And he nods slightly. "I am sure you could get the crowd really worked up, even with the toned down version."
And he has to tease a little himself. "You can save the full version for later."
no subject
"Sam's my brother," Jim clarifies, a little less cheery than before, though he's not letting his family drama drag the mood down too much. It's all old news, anyway. "Used to be my partner in crime, back in the day."
He grins over his martini at the both of them, amused that he's gotten both of them blushing. "Seriously though, I'm so out of practice," he says, before the teasing goes too far. "And this dress isn't really made for it."
no subject
Ver gives a slight nod, accepting the answer and the fact he doesn't want to talk about it. Family is often a sore subject.
Oh, look, there's something shiny over there. Fascinating.
no subject
Hunter glances over to the stage, then to the waitress, who seems a little disappointed she can't lure Jim on the stage tonight. And he smiles. "I am willing to go up for one of the dances. Just something suiting..."
The waitress nods, smiling again. "We will keep that in mind."
The song "I'm Every Woman" starts being played. And one by one, a few of the drag queen stars start coming out on the stage, lip synching along.
no subject
Once the waitress is gone, they're able to talk freely again, and he decides - for Verity's sake, at least - to dial back the flirtatiousness a little bit. "I've gotta ask, is this kind of music popular in this time? Not that I don't like it or anything, but I've gotten so much shit from people for being into three hundred year old bands before and I don't think I've heard this one."
no subject
Jim's question shifts her attention back to the table and she gives a little shrug with her answer. "I think it's pretty standard pop music, yeah. I don't listen to this sort of thing much." She glances at Hunter, figuring he'd know better.
"I'm sure we can help you find all the obscure deep cuts, make a total hipster out of you if you want," she offers Jim with a mischievous smile.
no subject
"Anything that is considered an empowerment song."
He leans back in his chair for a moment, a smile as he glances around. "Anything that talks about unconditional love and support."
no subject
Verity's comment has lost him a little. "What's a hipster?"
no subject
"Mm, who'd have thought it was hiding behind such a pretty face?" She will flirt with Hunter until the day she dies (or he tells her to stop), because it's utterly safe. "A hipster is a person who loves edgy and obscure things. They listen to bands other people haven't heard of, have strict ethical rules for the food they eat, things like that."
no subject
Both compliments from Jim and then Verity bring a rosy blush to Hunter's face. And he will smile. He likes the flirting from both of them.
"I like knowing a few different things. Conversation starters."
no subject
The captain considers that definition. "I might be halfway there already. My favorite band when I was a kid was the Beastie Boys. Still a fan. I don't really do rules about food anymore though."
no subject
She only vaguely knows who that band is (it's mostly beat and shouting to her) but it doesn't seem too out of character for him. Food is a safer topic for her. Until she finds out why it's a minefield for him. "So I can feed you whatever I want? Good to know. And good for you, too."
no subject
"Verity is a master in the kitchen. Some of the meals she has cooked for meal since I have known her have been remarkable. Beyond words." Hunter means every word.
no subject
"Pretty much. Not a big fan of pork or bacon, but I'll eat anything." Which is not the same as liking everything, but he hasn't let that stop him for years now. "Do you have a specialty?"
Hunter's comment earns him a curious glance. "Do you do that a lot, or is it a special occasion sort of thing?"
no subject
"A specialty? Hmm. Well, my brother would probably say my chili, and my husband would probably say my cookies." No worries that she's yet another person vying for Hunter's favors. Not the sort Jim wants, anyway. "I'm more likely to find a new variation on a recipe than to keep making things the same way every time."
And, just to drive the point home, "I like having my friends around for dinner, although I do tend to go all-out for birthdays and things. I think Hunter's learned not to give me a theme," she teases.
