Avast! Prepare Ye to Watch Some Movies ((Jim))

Tonight, Hunter has his apartment decorated with a pirate theme. He had invited Jim over for a movie-watching marathon, so they could watch the four of five Pirates of the Caribbean movies that Hunter owns.

And in addition to having some pirate decorations hanging around the living room, Hunter is dressed in a pirate costume. He also has some special treats prepared for the movie night, which includes caramel popcorn, salt and vinegar chips, pretzels, peanuts and a few chilled beers.

Everything is ready for Jim to show up, so they can start the movie night.

"But need not worry, still plenty of Barbossa to discover." Hunter hints, as he starts the On Stranger Tides movie.

Of all the things Jim had expected to happen with Barbossa, having him become a privateer with a peg leg and a big floofy wig was not really on the list, and it's almost comical to watch. The darker tone of the previous two films seems much lighter here, despite the addition of Blackbeard to the cast, and perhaps not quite as emotionally engaging as the previous films. But Jim finds it entertaining enough, settling in to watch a new adventure of Captain Jack Sparrow, this time with no plot points that bring up bad memories.

The storyline that Hunter most enjoys in the film is the one about the mermaid, and how the captive missionary falls in love with her. And how the mermaid only sheds a tear after the missionary sacrifices himself for her.

He has to wipe away a tear from his own eyes.

He is not surprised that the romance between the mermaid and the missionary is the highlight for Hunter. Not as compelling as the one between Will and Elizabeth, in Jim's opinion, but believable enough to have a little tug on the heartstrings.

It comes as a slight surprise that the Spanish arrive only to destroy the Fountain, rather than exploit it in turn. It's less of a surprise that Jack's trickster nature comes out once again to defeat Blackbeard and give his life to Angelica instead. And it's entirely unsurprising, yet oddly satisfying, to see Barbossa reclaim his iconic hat and take command of the Queen Anne's Revenge, tearing up his Letters of Marque.

Hunter waits until the after-credit scene, when the voodoo doll of Jack washes up on the shore of the island where Angelica was abandoned.

And then he removes the DVD. "I don't have the newest Pirates film on DVD, since it just came out in movie theatres."

"But here is the trailer of the movie..." And he uses his computer adapter to play the YouTube trailer on his TV screen.

"This series really likes the 'undead pirate' thing, doesn't it?" Jim asks, once the trailer is done.

[losthunter]

"It fits the tropes of the setting. Tales of undead pirates were quite popular during sea-faring days."

[boldygoing]

"Sure, but I think at this point, most of the main characters have been undead or immortal except Gibbs and Elizabeth," Jim says, a little amused.

[losthunter]

"You have a point..." Hunter chuckles lightly.

"Did you like the series?"

[boldygoing]

"Overall, yeah, they had some issues but they were more entertaining than probably should've been. I did like that they didn't just go with the easy 'finding buried treasure' kind of plot. They were trying to get all the cursed gold in the first one, but they were trying to put the treasure back, which was a nice twist." He nods, taking another small handful of pretzels, since there's still some left.

"Those little twists are always enjoying. Like how the Spanish wanted to destroy the Fountain of Life."

[boldygoing]

Of course, now that Hunter's mentioned it and Jim is thinking about it, he can't help but draw another parallel to his own life experiences. "I sort of see where they were coming from. Not the religion part of it, but... that sort of thing's like Pandora's Box."

[losthunter]

"I am sort of glad I never had to deal with a mystical, life-changing, object of power like either of those."

[boldygoing]

Jim decides not to bring attention to the fact that they both have, in a way, dealt with such a thing. Not magic, of course, but if not for the all but miraculous healing power of the serum that McCoy made from Khan's blood, Jim wouldn't be here now. It's something neither of them probably want to think about much.

"It's more trouble than it's worth," he agrees instead.

Hunter moves closer to Jim, so he can place his arms onto the other man's hips. "I can book us tickets for the new movie, if you would like. For later this week?"

[boldygoing]

"Does it lock us in to a specific time?" Jim asks, uncertain how movie theaters work in the twenty-first century. "My schedule might change without notice."

[losthunter]

"I will plan around your schedule." Hunter is not worried about missing the movie.

[sorry for the slow posting, sick grandma issue.]

[boldygoing]

"All right then." He hasn't been to see a movie in any kind of theater for many years, and definitely not a twenty-first century one. Jim raises his eyebrows at Hunter. "Does that mean costumes again?"


[No worries. :( Hope she feels better.]

[losthunter]

"Most people in my universe only go in costume on opening night. And we missed that..." Hunter runs his fingertips against the fabric of Jim's pirate shirt. "But you can wear this for me anytime."

[Me too. She has been struggling to breathe recently. Pretty scary]

[boldygoing]

That gets a smile out of him. "I'll keep that in mind." He's not sure it's going to be his thing, but Jim has done many things just to make his bed partners happy.


[If something comes up and you have to go, I will understand.]

[losthunter]

Hunter is glad to see Jim smiling. "Of course... what I appreciate the most is the man under the clothes. You would be sexy in a potato sack."

[Appreciate that. She was looking better tonight. But she has been weak lately. Just glad I am here for my mother at this time]

[boldygoing]

"That's weirdly specific," Jim says, lightly teasing. "That's not one of your recurring fantasies, I hope."

[losthunter]

"Just an old saying..." Hunter chuckles in return.

"But you do star in most of my fantasies."

[boldygoing]

"I'm not surprised." It's flattering to hear, though. "You'll have to tell me about them sometime."

[losthunter]

"What would you like to know?" Hunter asks softly.
