Sleepovers with Someone to Cling to ((Verity))

It has been a quiet week for Hunter. One of the advantages of the quiet is the fact that Hunter has had lots of time to work on his artwork. (Perhaps a little bit too much time, in all reality).

So receiving a message from Verity was a good thing, all things considered. Hunter really had wanted to speak to her, about some small things going on in his life. And just have a fun night with a great friend. So they had decided to have a good-ol' fashioned sleepover.

Knowing that Verity was going to stay the night -- and having no qualms with sharing his bed with his good friend -- Hunter had made sure to bring out his best rose-themed sheets for the King-sized bed.

He also raided the closest convenience store to stock up on a few snack goodies for the evening. But of course, for the wine selection of the evening, Hunter went to one of his favourite stores. There he also picked up some cheese selections of the evening.

Almost was ready for Verity to arrive. Hunter's apartment is very open concept. The kitchen, dining room and living room are all visible from the doorway. Of course, his art studio is a little more tucked away -- close to the balcony, and where Hunter grows his roses.

"Do people actually jump out of the closet? Did you wear your most fabulous outfit when you did? Are there pictures?" She's going to keep teasing until he's as cheered up as she can make him. "Tell me there are pictures and I'll be the best wing-woman."

Verity will be the best possible wing-woman she can be regardless. She's just going to need to figure out what that means, exactly, because she's all out of friends who might conceivably date a man right now so her usual methods aren't going to work.

"I am pretty smug about it," she admits with a laugh. "But well, who can blame me?"

"I should show you the shirt I wore when Schön came over. It was fabulous."

"And tell you what... if I ever decide to participate in any drag nights... you would be the girl I would call for that." His smile is getting bigger. More real. And it is hard to tell if he is serious about the suggestion or not.

"Did you know when you add smug and short... you get a very dangerous package of cuteness. I have the proof. Right here." He kisses the top of her head.

"Oh yeah? I think you will have to show me that shirt. And I promise to appreciate it properly."

Ver smirks at him, but won't protest too much in light of seeing that smile back. "At last, a chance to break out my glitter nail polish again."

Don't think she won't.

"Mmph, I'm not cute I'm fierce." She's not really complaining. Every time he kisses her she snuggles closer, so he'd better be careful or else she'll be in his lap soon.

"I can do the whole fashion show thing ... after cuddling."

"Oh good... someone else to do my nails." Hunter smiles. He is one male who would not protest to such a 'threat'.

And he also doesn't mind that Verity is almost in his lap. "You are both. Fierce-cute."

"That is a fair trade and I can live with it." Splitting time into 'cuddling' and 'after cuddling' is a grand way to live. They're lucky.

"Mm-hmm. I'm pretty good at it. Loki..." She hesitates, takes a breath, and then soldiers on. "Loki liked having me do his nails. He was very fussy about his appearance, especially after Sigurd starting coming around."

She considers that for a moment before nodding in agreement. "Okay."

"The next thing you will tell me is you also do facials and massages." Hunter has not been to a manicurist, facialist, or masseuse since the curse occurred.

He gives her an extra squeeze when she mentions, and falters slightly while talking about Loki.

Ver scoffs at him and pokes out her tongue before pointing out, "Dude, have you seen how flawless I am? Of course, I do facials." Really, for someone who sleeps as little as she does, she has tremendous skin. "Massage... I'm not so great at."

Still, two outta three ain't bad.

She gives him a little smile at the squeeze. Knowing he understands and won't press her about it helps. Gentle encouragement like that will help her continue to improve.

"I guess that was for the best... you were one more awesome thing about you before I kidnapped you and kept you in my closet." Hunter grins big and playful. "Short people don't need a lot of space, right?"

Ver laughs and gives him a playful nudge. "Right. We're very compact and easy to store. But I'd rather not live in your closet if it's all the same to you. There wouldn't be room to cuddle in there."

Now that he seems to be feeling better Ver lets go of him and turns in his arms to lean back against him. Taking his hands, she examines his nails thoughtfully. "You know, I brought my nail polish collection..."

"Would I sound totally perverted if I said I would welcome you into my bed?"

Hunter lets his hands relax as she studies him. They are definitely the hands of an artist. Long, slender fingers. His nails short, but still clean.

"Oh? And what color do you think would be best for me?"

"Oh, sweetie, it's a little late to be worrying about that." She delivers the line deadpan, but then ruins it by grinning up at him.

He's got such nice hands. When she's done examining them she sets one on her knee and starts massaging the other one. "Something to go with your pretty green eyes. But it needs to be dramatic, too. You're an artist, after all. So... I think I know just the thing. Holographic nails."

"You have figured out my nefarious plans. Oh darn." Hunter's contentment rumbled in his chest.

"That sounds like something I could go for."

She might have had a snarky comeback, but the 'oh darn' makes her giggle too much to pull it off. He wins this round.

"Okay. You want me start now, or should we pretend we're going to eat something first?"

"Despite not wanting to move from this prime cuddling spot... I suppose we should eat. And then tackle the nails."

"We don't have to move just yet." She brought that plate of snacks, after all; she'll pick it up and balance it on her knees so they can reach it while continuing to cuddle. "Just try not to get too many crumbs in my hair."

He gives another contented sigh, when she tells him that they don't have to move yet.

"That is one advantage of being hairless. That and no allergies." He can make bad jokes too.

She is a woman of many virtues. One of them is planning ahead. If he'd like to focus on the snuggling, she'll fix up his nibbles. "Yeah, you totally lucked out in the curse department. You got sweet ink and piercings, I got eternal headaches and a crippling fear of society. You like pâté?"

"Schön thinks that I might have some latent magic in my system, because the curse was never broken."

Since Verity spoke about headaches, he places the fingers of one hand on her temple, giving her a slight temple massage. The other hand grabs a quick nosh, careful to not get any crumbs on her.

"I do."

"Yeah? I think that might be where mine comes from, too. You thinking of trying to learn to do something with it?"

Ver holds still for the first moment after he starts touching her face, then relaxes and goes back to what she was doing. Crackers with a schmear of pâté for each of them. "You'd be good at it. Magic takes a lot of willpower and visualization, so, very much something an artist can do right?"

Hunter accepts the offered cracker, keeping the temple massage going with his other hand.

"And every time I run into Kendra, and one of her spells, I am able to get through it without any huge problems. So maybe it would be best to figure out what I can do... and how to handle it."

"I am a little scared by the thought. But in the same thought, I do want to learn more about myself. And become a better person."

"How many spells has Kendra tried on you?" She thought the curse was a 'one and done' deal. Continued torment is another issue and one she feels compelled to try and help stop. Somehow. She hasn't worked that part out yet.

"Magic's a tool, sweetie. It doesn't make you a better person or a worse one, it makes you a person with more options. You are what makes you a good person."

"Three others, since I came to the Nexus." Hunter explains. "The first, I was lucky to have my friend Wil around to help me deal with the side effects. I would like to introduce you to him, by the way."

"The second changed my appearance to what I looked like before... for a couple of days."

"And the last, and most recent, was when I painted a portrait of Kendra. Talking with Schön I had wondered if Kendra had unbalanced magic. The portrait acted like a portal, pulling me to where she was. But I couldn't reach her. She just kept repeating that it wasn't time. That I wasn't ready."

Hunter closes his eyes for a moment. "After hearing that I might have some magic... I really think that is what Kendra meant. That I couldn't help her, because I don't have those options yet."

"I just need guidance."

Now's not the time to bring it up, but she does need to meet his friends if she's going to throw him a proper birthday party. That's coming up soon after all. She files the fragment of information away for later.

"Why would she need your help? And why would you want to?" Remember that part about magic not making you a good person?

"I am not sure why, I just feel like she does..." Hunter pauses for a moment, when Verity asks her second question.

"Because... I just want to help her." Magic might not necessarily make people good or bad, but Hunter is always going to be the same caring person he is. Which means he even wants to help Kendra, even though it might appear as she is unworthy of his assistance.

Magic hasn't made her a better person, clearly. She's quiet while she stacks up some crackers and cheese for them, then sighs. "I don't understand it, but if that's what you feel like you gotta do..."

The practical concerns she might be able to help with. "What kind of magic do you want to learn?"

I know it's a typo but it's just too cute.
