Dancing, Drinks and Drag ((Jim, Verity)
Hunter has been looking forward to this night for a long time. He has a table booked at his favorite Drag bar. He is looking forward to dressing up, and enjoying a few drinks with two of his favorite people. And he is sure that both Jim and Verity will enjoy a night out on the town.
Right now, Hunter is waiting in his New York apartment, where he is going to meet up with both Jim and Verity. It is the best place to get together, before heading out to the bar. Both Jim and Verity know his PINpoint coordinates. And besides, they don't have to navigate the Drag bar trying to find Hunter.
Tonight, Hunter is wearing a long gold dress. It is designed to show off his arms. And has a long exposed back. The look is completed with an elaborate head piece and deep, rich make-up that flatters his whole look.
He is excited to have Jim and Verity show up and to see their outfits.

And yes, he splurged for a limo service for them tonight.

"Ah. Yeah, wifi can be unpredictable. They're 'smart' because they're little computers." When they get to a door, she steps forward to open it for them with a tip of her hat. "Ladies."

Hunter makes himself comfortable on one of the seats. It has been a while since he had sat in the back of one of these types of cars.
no subject
Jim has clearly done something like this before, because he has the presence of mind to gather up the skirt of his dress as he gets in, so he doesn't sit on it weirdly. "This car is nice," he says, a little surprised by the accommodations inside. Drinks were definitely not something he'd expected to find in the back of a vehicle like this.
no subject
Hunter gets a smirk. "Oh, is that what I'm supposed to be?"
She makes sure the door is shut firm and locked before she joins them in the limo. This gives them time to get their skirts arranged, too. Once everyone's settled she nudges Hunter's leg with a foot. Friendly teasing. "Very nice. And drinks? What's your pleasure?"
no subject
"I will have champagne, please." Hunter smiles at Verity's teasing.
no subject
He's not sure how much the driver can hear, so he doesn't ask the questions he really wants to ask, out of caution that it'll mark him as peculiarly out of touch with this level of technology. So instead he asks, "So stretching a car out makes it fancier?"
no subject
Jim's question gets a smile from her, this one touched with a hint of wistfulness. What sort of utopia is he from that he doesn't understand these things? "Don't tell me people don't believe bigger is always better where you're from?"
no subject
"One can always find something bigger, if they have the money to spend." He winks slightly.
no subject
Hunter's comment gets a slightly confused look from him. "That sounds... really messy." He rather doubts that a luxury vehicle like this has a sufficiently water-repellent interior, though he's not exactly an expert on this era, so he could be wrong.
no subject
Jim isn't the only one who thinks that's messy. Ver's nose wrinkles up when she thinks about it. "Why would anyone want to take a bath in a moving car? That seems like the opposite of relaxing."
no subject
He glances outside to the New York streets outside. "We are close to our destination."
Soon, the car pulls up to the Lips restaurant front. The front entrance seems ordinary, with just a black awning over the door and a pair of lips as the logo. However, there is a long line of anxious drag queens and other guests who are waiting to get in.
no subject
Jim peers out the window at their destination, noting the crowd outside. "Looks pretty popular."
no subject
Her eyes widen slightly when she sees the crowds. It's not her favorite thing and she needs a sec to remind herself she can handle it. Because she can totally handle it, and anyway, Hunter's putting himself in a vulnerable position and is counting on her to back him up if there's trouble. Jim she figures can handle himself, but she'll back him up too.
"Ready to make everyone jealous?" She gives them both a faint smile before she climbs out of the car, stepping aside and turning to offer them each a hand out. All gentlemanly.
no subject
He is glad that Verity and Jim are here for him. And smiles when Verity climbs out of the car, and offers them a hand. Hunter gathers his nerve and takes the offered hand first, to slide out of the limo.
There is a few appreciative woots and whistles from the crowd. It makes him blush. "Thank you darling" He moves out of the way, so Verity can have the same honor of helping Jim out of the car.
no subject
He watches Hunter exit the car, and the response he gets from the crowd in doing so. He's seen this kind of chivalrous gesture in some of the movies he's seen with Hunter, so he follows the same tradition without hesitation, taking Verity's hand and letting her help him out, until he's steady on his feet. "Thanks," he says, smiling at her.
no subject
While they wait to be let in, she tries to get a peek into the interior. Not an easy proposition, given the lighting, but that tells her something too.
no subject
There are quite a few Drag Queens, and a few Drag Kings, in the line-up. Most of them are already having fun, laughing to themselves, and not minding the wait.
The car service gives Hunter a card, so he can contact the driver when they are ready to leave, and then pulls away.
Hunter wraps one arm around Verity, and the other around Jim, keeping himself calm and collected by the presence of his friends.
The line moves pretty fast, since once they get closer to the door it splits into two separate lines -- one for reservations, and one that are just hoping to get into the club without a reservation. And once they get in the reservation line, the line moves even quicker. It is not long before they are being escorted into the club itself.
Inside, the whole setting is high class and fancy. There are several long tables, located close to the stage. There are also a few hidden alcoves, where a person can still see the stage, but not have to sit at a long table with strangers. It is one of those alcoves that they are being escorted.
Most of the staff are dressed extravagantly in their Drag Queen costumes. And the music is loud enough to be heard, without being over-the-top loud. They have arrived right between shows, as there is nothing on the stage right now.
no subject
He's also enjoying playing tourist, something he rarely gets to do these days, not having to refrain from people-watching or examining the decor. The music is pretty old, from his perspective, but that's not necessarily a bad thing, as much of it may be tunes he hasn't heard before.
"Reminds me of this bar down in New Orleans I passed through once," he remarks, as they're led towards their assigned alcove.
[OOC: Because Photobucket has abruptly decided that third-party hosting should cost $400/year and is holding all previously uploaded images hostage, here are rehosted links to Jim's dress and hairstyle for future reference.]

Ver smiles when Hunter wraps an arm around her and returns the favor, wrapping her arm around his shoulders. He has nothing to fear when Verity's around to protect him. They make a formidable force in the crowd, in their way. She's still grateful the lines are progressing so quickly.
The private table is a blessing, as is the chance to get used to the space before the show starts. She makes notes of the exits, the doors the staff will use and the ones that lead out of the building. Jim can safely assume this is Samus' training. (Yes, Verity's probably going to be quizzed about it later.)
She makes sure Hunter and Jim are seated comfortably before taking her own seat. "Oh? Which part, the disco balls and glitter everywhere?"
no subject
There are a few exit doors. The bar meets all fire codes. And there is a downstairs area, where the staff seem to be coming up from. And there is also (assumed) a door behind the stage.
"Or the drag queens?"
no subject
no subject
Several exits and a kitchen downstairs; pretty standard for a NYC restaurant.
"I figure you can throw a party like that just about anywhere with enough booze," she points out. "Although, given how many frat houses try every year, maybe you're on to something..."
Speaking of, she'll look over the drinks menu briefly. She will never understand the adolescent obsession with giving drinks provocative names. Process of elimination makes choosing her drink easy, and she's soon offering the menu to the others.
no subject
Hunter looks over the menu himself, immediately spotting a few things he things he would enjoy. And perhaps an appetizer for the table.
"I love the theme of this place. It has been too long since I went out for a party."
