Dancing, Drinks and Drag ((Jim, Verity)

Hunter has been looking forward to this night for a long time. He has a table booked at his favorite Drag bar. He is looking forward to dressing up, and enjoying a few drinks with two of his favorite people. And he is sure that both Jim and Verity will enjoy a night out on the town.

Right now, Hunter is waiting in his New York apartment, where he is going to meet up with both Jim and Verity. It is the best place to get together, before heading out to the bar. Both Jim and Verity know his PINpoint coordinates. And besides, they don't have to navigate the Drag bar trying to find Hunter.

Tonight, Hunter is wearing a long gold dress. It is designed to show off his arms. And has a long exposed back. The look is completed with an elaborate head piece and deep, rich make-up that flatters his whole look.

He is excited to have Jim and Verity show up and to see their outfits.

"That sounds really interesting.... how long do you stay in mid-air? How do you get down?" Hunter asks a few questions.

"The first time, Samus wouldn't let me," Jim explains, not at all surprised by her disbelief. "The other time, I was fresh out of the hospital and was still medically restricted."

These Windy Cliff things do certainly sound unique, and as Jim is a fan of unusual sports and natural phenomena, he listens with interest. "Good question," he agrees with Hunter.

"Ah." Samus is a good explanation for just about anything and Verity will accept that without further comment or any teasing. He knows why.

"From what I've seen, you can stay there pretty much indefinitely, so long as you keep finding new currents to ride. And to get down again, you find currents blowing over the cliff and hope you're good at landing. I am in no way an expert in how this works, but I've survived more than one visit, so."

"I would love to visit those cliffs someday. Check it out."

Hunter's phone chirps slightly. He checks it. "Ah! That would be the alert that the car is two minutes away."

"Me too," Jim agrees. Of course, he doesn't think McCoy will be very happy about it, but the doctor doesn't have to know about it beforehand. "I think Sulu would probably be interested, and maybe Chekov. First time Sulu and I did anything together was that orbital skydiving combat drop I told you about," he adds as an aside to Hunter. "He's a fan of the whole 'extreme sports' thing too."

He hadn't expected any kind of warning, so that's nice. "Guess we'd better finish these off then," he says, lifting his wine glass and swirling around what little remains.

"Orbital skydiving combat drop?" Verity loves her some storytime, so now Jim owes her a story. It's only fair, seeing as he mentioned it and all. "Sounds like it'd be his sort of adventure. We can go whenever you're all free."

Ver nods, acknowledging the warning and agreeing with the suggestion. "And if we're going to be keeping records of the evening, we'd probably better get started. Either of you averse to photos?"

"No. I am fine with photos." Hunter answers Verity. He didn't always feel this way, but because of friends in his life who love him and support him, Hunter has this new confidence that he had once been missing.

It's part of the tragic tale that's being saved for later, but Jim can't see the harm in mentioning this part of it. He hasn't told Hunter the details yet either. "There was a Romulan ship attacking Vulcan with a mining drill platform that extended from orbit down into the upper atmosphere. The energy beam was scrambling our long-range communications and transporter tech, and the Romulan commander had demanded that Adm- Captain Pike," he corrects himself mid-word, "come over to their ship by shuttlecraft, so he dropped me, Sulu, and Olson halfway with explosives to disable the drill. Things... didn't go well and we had to improvise."

He drains his wine glass, and shakes his head in response to her question. "Fine by me."

The harm in telling Verity part of a story is that she'll want the rest. (It's a mouse and cookie situation.) The fact the part he's telling doesn't make sense to her doesn't help. And considering where she's from--or maybe because of it--being confused by science is not a good thing in her book. It almost always means someone was doing something they shouldn't and 'accidentally' endangering everything.

So she's not going to ask. Not tonight.

"C'mon then, get together." She motions for them to get closer and pulls out her phone while they pose themselves. "Say 'cheese'."

Hunter has no problems with getting closer to Jim, sitting nice and close to him. "Cheese."

Fortunately for everyone, Hunter has recently introduced Jim to twenty-first century picture-taking customs, so he doesn't have to ask what cheese has to do with anything. He grins, throwing an arm around Hunter's waist. "Are we gonna be able to get copies later?"

She takes a half-step back to get a better picture, the two of them with some roses in the background. It should be lovely.

"Sure. Print or digital?"

"I would prefer print version." Hunter likes the sensation of photo paper in his hands.

"Print's probably less messy," Jim agrees. "I don't know how well digital formats would convert. It's a little outdated for the twenty-third century, but I collect books, so they shouldn't stand out."

"I'll make sure to bring printouts next time I'll be seeing you," she promises. She clicks another photo before pocketing her phone again. "So what do you 23rd-century folk use to document every moment of your lives instead of smartphones and social media?"

Hunter offers both Verity and Jim an arm each, so he can take them downstairs to the car that should be arriving shortly. They can continue their conversation as they head down there.

And yes, he splurged for a limo service for them tonight.

Jim accepts the offered arm, smiling at Hunter before answering Verity's question. "In Starfleet, we do audio logs, mostly. Earth still has social media, it just hasn't really spread off the planet. Subspace network doesn't really support it." And then, because he's curious and hasn't heard the term before, "What makes a phone smart? Does it have an artificial intelligence?" That sounds too advanced to be true.

Hunter can be such a showoff. Ver also accepts his arm, though at some point she's sure she should step up and be the 'man' in the situation. After all, isn't that the point?

"Ah. Yeah, wifi can be unpredictable. They're 'smart' because they're little computers." When they get to a door, she steps forward to open it for them with a tip of her hat. "Ladies."

"Thank you, good sir." Hunter winks at Verity, as he passes through the door. The chauffeur holds the door of the limo open for all three of them. There is some champagne chilled in the back of a limo. And also a sparkling water option.

Hunter makes himself comfortable on one of the seats. It has been a while since he had sat in the back of one of these types of cars.

Verity's answer makes sense, in a way. As long as he keeps in mind just how ancient of technology they're discussing. He tilts his head to the side, considering that. "So are older telephones called dumbphones?" It seems like a logical extrapolation to him.

Jim has clearly done something like this before, because he has the presence of mind to gather up the skirt of his dress as he gets in, so he doesn't sit on it weirdly. "This car is nice," he says, a little surprised by the accommodations inside. Drinks were definitely not something he'd expected to find in the back of a vehicle like this.

The question gets a laugh from her and Ver has to admit, "I think everyone's called their phone dumb sometimes. But no, I think they're just phones. Or old."

Hunter gets a smirk. "Oh, is that what I'm supposed to be?"

She makes sure the door is shut firm and locked before she joins them in the limo. This gives them time to get their skirts arranged, too. Once everyone's settled she nudges Hunter's leg with a foot. Friendly teasing. "Very nice. And drinks? What's your pleasure?"

Once they get settled, the chauffeur heads out towards their destination. He doesn't even have to bother them with an address, since that was already detailed to the company beforehand.

"I will have champagne, please." Hunter smiles at Verity's teasing.

"Me too, thanks," Jim agrees. He's looking around curiously at the interior of the limo, fairly unfamiliar with the style. He has noticed that Hunter is fairly comfortable in his seat, so this must not be his first time.

He's not sure how much the driver can hear, so he doesn't ask the questions he really wants to ask, out of caution that it'll mark him as peculiarly out of touch with this level of technology. So instead he asks, "So stretching a car out makes it fancier?"

Ver's not too familiar with limos, but she has a vague idea how it's supposed to work. And they're so comfy. She settles back in her seat and focuses on opening the champagne properly--with a hiss, not a bang.

Jim's question gets a smile from her, this one touched with a hint of wistfulness. What sort of utopia is he from that he doesn't understand these things? "Don't tell me people don't believe bigger is always better where you're from?"

"There are some stretch cars out there that have their own little Jacuzzi tubs." Hunter notes softly to Jim.

"One can always find something bigger, if they have the money to spend." He winks slightly.
